Frequently Asked Questions

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GROOM MY DOG?

This all depends on the individual dog. Coats, condition, age, temperament, breed and style all have an impact on the time it takes to complete a groom. An idea of length/time will be given once I have met your dog but generally a full groom will take approx. 2 hours

CAN YOU GIVE ME A PRICE UP FRONT FOR THE GROOM?

Unfortunately I can only provide a price estimate before the groom, as each dog is completely different depending on their coat condition, size and temperament etc. Once you have had your first groom with Tarporley Tails, the price for a groom will not change outside of our annual price increases.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD MY DOG BE GROOMED?

The coat type, condition and length will determine how often your dog should be professionally groomed. This can be discussed, but generally dogs such as Cockapoo’s will need grooming every 4-6 weeks whereas a Border Collie would be groomed every 8-12 weeks.

MY DOG IS QUITE MATTED, CAN YOU SAVE THEIR COAT?

We will assess upon your arrival what the best option is if your dog is matted. Matts can often be very compact and close to the skin which is very uncomfortable for your dog. We will not put your dog through the discomfort and stress of trying to brush out matts therefore a short shave off is sometimes our only option.
We always put your dogs welfare and comfort before vanity, if we deem it necessary to do a short shave off due to matts we will always make you aware

Frequently Asked Questions

CAN I STAY WHILST MY DOG IS BEING GROOMED?

Unfortunately we do not have the facilities or insurance for you to be able to wait whilst your dog is being groomed. We can ensure that your dog will be looked after and treated as our own whilst in our care.

ARE YOU INSURED?

Tarporley Tails is fully insured, a certificate of insurance can be seen in the Salon.

I AM NOT HAPPY WITH MY DOGS GROOM, WHAT CAN BE DONE?

If you are unhappy with the groom, please let us know when you collect your dog. Alternatively, we have a 24 hour corrections policy whereby if you let us know within 24 hours of your appointment what you are unhappy with, we will correct it free of charge if possible.

WILL YOU GROOM A DOG THAT IS PREGNANT OR IN SEASON?

In the best interest of the dog, it is best to wait until their season has finished before their groom. We will also not groom her if she is pregnant as it can be a stressful experience for her.
